BANNED ITEMS & RESTRICTIONS
Search a name, inspect its rule, and know what to leave behind. Banned items cannot be equipped or carried in inspected bags.
Five newly named bans, two gear limits, and a pet positioning rule. See what changed ↗
The updated Guidelines prohibit this item.
The cap is explicitly banned. A lower use requirement does not make it legal.
Explicitly prohibited by name in the October 14 Guidelines.
Banned under this exact name in the Guidelines. Its identity in the beta client is unresolved; no item ID or icon is assigned.
Explicitly prohibited. Remove it from your bags before an inspection.
This specific bomb is prohibited; this is not a blanket ban on all grenades.
Prohibited even if your character can use it at level 30.
Prohibited by name alongside Magic Dust.
The pouch is prohibited as an equipped item and in inspected bags.
This specific armor item is prohibited.
Explicitly prohibited. Check individual engineering items rather than assuming every explosive is legal.
Requires level 40, so it cannot be equipped in this level 30 event. The Format Rules also name it explicitly; this is recorded here for reference.
Fire, Nature, Frost, Arcane, Holy and Shadow protection potions are all prohibited.
Non-equippable pet summon items are banned in Format Rules, including Spider Swarm. Equippable summons such as Dog Whistle are treated differently.
An equippable pet-summoning trinket specifically allowed by the rules, unless another restriction applies.
Not on the named banned list. The general consumable permission applies, subject to level and other restrictions.
Not on the named banned list. Use only if your level and profession requirements are met and no other rule prohibits it.
Quest and dungeon reward items above item level 45 are banned. Item level is separate from the required character level. This clause does not itself ban every crafted or world-drop item above 45.
Profession items and tools requiring skill 226 or higher are banned and treated as exploits. Read the requirements of the specific item.
Campfire buffs are prohibited in tournament duels.
Holiday event buffs and consumables, including Wickerman effects, are prohibited.
World buffs and temporary buffs from outdoor objectives or quests are prohibited, including Blood Shard buffs.
Only your own class self-buffs are permitted. Receiving another class’s buff is prohibited.
Applying a heal-over-time effect before the duel starts is prohibited. This is a timing restriction, not a ban on casting Renew during the duel.
No pre-HoTs. Cast it after the duel begins rather than entering with the effect already active.
Its heal-over-time effect is covered by the pre-HoT restriction.
Explicitly allowed before the duel. The pre-HoT restriction does not prohibit this shield.
No pre-trapping. Place traps after the countdown reaches zero and the opponent becomes hostile. Do not interrupt a protected opener.
Sacrificing a demon before the duel begins is prohibited. The restriction applies to pre-sacrifice.
Up to four may be active at the start. Against a stealth class or Warrior, totems that interrupt the protected opener must wait until after it.
Keep the pet beside its owner until the duel begins and the opponent becomes hostile.
Warriors receive the protected opener against non-stealth classes, except in a Warrior mirror. The first offensive action uses the opener.
Druids count as stealth classes. When opening with a casted spell, the start of the cast ends the protected opener window.
A Rogue has the protected opener against non-stealth opponents. In a stealth mirror, neither side gets an uncontested opener.
Try a shorter name or switch to “All”.
Allowed examples remain subject to level, profession and other rules. Ability restrictions often apply to when you cast.
START WITH YOUR CHARACTER
YOUR CLASS. YOUR RULES.
Pick a class for the restrictions that affect your first few seconds.
No pre-traps. Pet at your side.
No pre-traps. Wait for zero and hostility, then respect any protected opener. Keep your pet beside you before the start.
THE FIRST OFFENSIVE ACTION
WHO GETS THE OPENER?
Stealth takes priority. Warriors open against non-stealth classes. Mirrors are different. Try a matchup.
Rogue goes first.
Mage must remain still, without turning, until the first offensive action or the 25-second window expires.
Druid casted openers end protection when the cast begins. Opponent-caused delays do not count toward the window. Format Rules §11 ↗
TWO DAYS. TWO DIFFERENT TESTS.
THE ROAD TO THE FINAL
QUALIFIERS
Pods targeting 36 players.
Six Swiss rounds.
points → wins → Buchholz / tiebreaks.
DOUBLE ELIMINATION
Bottom eight seeds play in.
A second match loss eliminates.
No bracket reset.
What if a qualifier duel times out?+
It ends as a tie, worth one point each, with no replay. Same-class qualification tiebreaks are the exception: they must produce a winner. Deliberate stalling can be penalized.
What changes after a finals timeout?+
The duel is replayed within one minute. For the rest of that match, each player is limited to three food and three water, counted separately.
Can I change talents or wait for cooldowns?+
Your qualifier build locks at check-in. Finalists may submit a different finals build by the deadline, then it is locked for the bracket. Gear swaps between duels are permitted. Finals breaks are one minute; waiting for cooldowns is prohibited.
What is a tentative win?+
A provisional result used for Swiss pairing when no real duel is played. It is replaced by a scored duel in round 6.5 or later replacement rounds. It is not a permanent extra win.
The champion cannot collect both awards. Their class award moves to the next player of that class. Tied class winners split the award.

SOURCES & LATEST CHANGES
The updated Guidelines expand the banned list.
Deviate Fish, Green Leaf Tea, Minor Magic Resistance Potion, Crystal Basilisk Spine and Gnomish Mind Control Cap. Also: quest/dungeon rewards above ilvl 45, profession requirements of 226+, and pets beside their owners until hostility.
Data notes & unresolved details+
Rule summaries were checked against the organizer documents on October 14, 2026. Format Rules take priority where documents conflict. Truthseeker’s Bow remains listed there.
“Green Leaf Tea” has not been matched to a beta item. It is shown without an invented icon or tooltip effect. A reported October 14 announcement changes Warlock shard trips, but published Format Rules still allow one per stage. Ask an admin before leaving; the replacement shard arrangement is not verified here.
Icons come from the creator’s beta client, build 70374. Available spell tooltips use the Talents Forever export, snapshot October 13, with each record’s own client source. They are reference descriptions, not measured combat results. Data attribution: Talents Forever, CC BY 4.0. Original game text and art © Blizzard Entertainment.
