Launch tips: settle the ruleset, then plan the week you actually have
The launch decisions worth making with friends: ruleset and faction, name reservations, installation, raid timing, professions, Legacy and useful camp stops.

Put the ruleset and faction in the group chat first
A character stays on the ordinary ruleset where it was created. Changing that choice later means creating a new character, so agreement with friends is worth more than a launch-week optimization. Groups, dungeons and raids require the same ruleset and faction. On the standard PvP ruleset, your first character also commits your faction there. A name reservation creates a real character, so that choice already matters during reservations.
Our practical advice is to wait for everyone to answer before anyone reserves. Then choose PvP because the risk sounds enjoyable today. A fond memory of old world PvP may be enough for you, but a short evening lost to an unwanted fight is a real cost. Normal still allows consensual PvP and battlegrounds. It is a valid choice for a group that wants its questing time to be predictable.
AGREE ON BOTH
Your group needs the same ruleset. Changing later means starting a new character.
Grouping also needs the same faction. Standard PvP commits your side with the first character.

Reserve the pair and finish the download early
Name reservations for eligible pre-purchase players run through November 3. Characters use a first name and a second name, and the complete pair must be unique within the region. Prepare a few second names rather than assuming the first name you have used for years is already lost. Friends starting in different Alliance areas also have a new travel connection: Stormwind Harbor and Auberdine are linked by a boat.
The worldwide launch is November 4 at 3 PM Pacific, or 6 PM Eastern. In Central Europe that same moment is November 5 at 00:00 CET. Our episode recommends installing ahead of time through the Battle.net app’s Game Version menu. A completed download is something you can control; queue length is not. Taking launch day off or starting later in the week should follow what you enjoy, rather than an assumption that everyone needs the first login.

Use the raid date only if it is your goal
The first raids open on December 9, 35 days after launch. That creates a useful target for a player who wants the first reset. It does not make those five weeks the correct pace for everyone. Our advice is to decide whether racing is actually part of your plan before comparing your progress with a friend who has taken time off.
A leveling tier list can help when its criteria match your sessions. A tested level 60 ranking was unavailable to this episode because the beta ended at 30 and the first raids were still ahead. Read the later talent tree before abandoning a class during an awkward early stretch. Utility also deserves a place in race choice: an escape from a root, fear or stun can solve a recurring problem even when a different racial currently looks better on a damage calculation.

Choose a profession for a reason you can name
Fresh-economy prices are unknown. Skinning fits naturally around killing beasts, but that convenience does not establish how profitable the leather will be when many players follow the same recommendation. Crafting can instead provide equipment you want to make, or a camp item your regular group needs. You do not need to finish every profession target in the first week.
Legacy gives account-wide progress without making alts compulsory. One character can eventually earn enough to fill the launch allowance of sixteen Legacy points; leveling other classes is another way to contribute. Common early milestones are character level 25 or a primary crafting profession at 150. Gathering does not supply that crafting milestone. Well Rested can be an early convenience for shorter sessions, but faster rested-XP accumulation should not be mistaken for a multiplier on every experience reward.

Use camp stops and keep the dungeon quests
A friendly campfire can be a useful stop rather than an interruption to a route. Camp items provide bonuses after you sit there, and three items can be active, one contributed by each player. Coordinate those items with the class buffs already in the group, because many overlap. A tent can help restore a small rested reserve; it is not a reason to sit indefinitely with an already healthy stock of rested experience.
For cooking, higher-level XP food does not mean a larger kill-XP bonus. Better versions add better stats, so the cheapest appropriate recipe can be enough when the experience effect is your only goal. The bonus applies to kills, not all quest rewards. Dungeon quests remain worth collecting, too: the beta change halved their extra experience above a normal quest, rather than halving every part of the reward. Our approach is to settle the irreversible group choices, then use these small conveniences as they fit the night you have.
