A guide to choosing your main, adapted from our full class episode. The playstyle recommendations are our assessment; inspect the abilities and try your talents before committing.

A weak weapon no longer explains the whole Rage bar

Forever changes the resource problem that made an undergeared Classic Warrior feel especially awkward. Ordinary swings generate Rage according to weapon speed. A slower weapon supplies a larger portion per successful hit, while a faster weapon supplies smaller portions more often. That is a rule about the portion from a swing, not proof that every weapon, build or fight produces the same total Rage per second. Critical basic attacks still give extra Rage.

Incoming attacks are considered before armor and absorbs reduce the blow, so a Priest’s shield should no longer starve the Warrior of Rage. At 20, Victory Rush adds conditional self-healing after a qualifying kill: you still need the window, a target and the button available. It is not a heal to press at will. These changes make fresh-character solo play more forgiving, while leaving food, weapon upgrades and good pull choices relevant.

Keep the answer in the right stance and hand

The class’s distinctive daily work is getting access to the right tool. Shield Bash arrives at 12 and needs a shield plus Battle or Defensive Stance. A two-handed Warrior can carry a one-hander and shield for that purpose. Pummel follows at 38 and works without a shield, but requires Berserker Stance. Disarm is a Defensive Stance tool; Intimidating Shout is an emergency fear that needs room around the pull.

A macro can make the stance or weapon change easier to execute, but it cannot erase the ability’s requirements. Stance changes also retain only a limited amount of Rage. You do not need every tool on every enemy, yet the requirement to think about them remains part of the main. Our view is that this is a strength for someone who enjoys solving each pull differently and a substantial drawback for someone who wants one fixed rotation.

Why we recommend giving Protection a real try

Our starting recommendation is to level with a shield once the early toolkit has come together. Protection talents make blocks generate Rage, with dodges and parries contributing later. Revenge then supplies a much stronger counterattack than its Classic reputation suggests. A nearby melee enemy feeds both the defensive engine and the next response, which makes the build comfortable for ordinary solo pulls as well as tanking for friends.

The opening levels can still feel slow. Shield Block arrives at 16, and the episode places the point where the shield starts to feel worthwhile somewhere around 16–20 rather than at character creation. Shield Block handles more than one incoming attack, Thunder Clap works in Defensive Stance, and major defensive cooldowns no longer all share a timer. A distant caster or a fleeing enemy does not cooperate with that engine. Holding several enemies also needs active work; the shield is not an automatic solution to every pack.

THE PROTECTION TRADE

GET HIT, THEN ANSWER

Ordinary melee pulls

Blocks and counterattacks support the shield-and-Rage loop.

Casters and runners

Enemies outside your reach do not feed that same loop.

Fury and Arms make different demands on the weapon

Fury favors faster melee and often two one-handed weapons, with talents that support the off-hand. Misses can still create uncomfortable stretches, especially against higher-level targets. A two-handed Fury route is possible if you skip the off-hand investments. Bloodthirst is the later signature attack. Choose the spec because you enjoy its speed and accept the damage you may take, rather than expecting the resource changes to remove every rough patch.

Arms builds around a two-hander, Rend and deliberate spending between larger hits. Spearing Strike can dismount an enemy and gains damage against giants and dragonkin. Sweeping Strikes gives a route to hitting a second enemy, while Mortal Strike becomes reachable at 40 and reduces the target’s healing received. The beta stopped at 30, so the episode treats the finished build’s performance as an open question. A long gap after a miss remains a practical reason to try the style before committing to it.

A group can change the experience without changing the class

Protection is our convenient choice for a player splitting time between solo questing and tanking with friends. A Warrior carrying a shield can handle an easy dungeon without a full tank build, but the talents that improve that experience live in Protection. Dual spec starts at 40; before then, switching builds requires a trainer respec. Joining as damage also does not stop a group from asking whether you can tank.

In PvP, reaching the target is the recurring difficulty. Charge is for entering a fight, with a minimum distance; it does not provide an unrestricted in-combat escape or approach. Intercept arrives at 30 in Berserker Stance, and Hamstring slows a runner you can reach. A healer who removes pressure and keeps you alive can transform the fight. Our recommendation does not assume one will always be following you. A raid-main-tank commitment is also a different calendar decision from tanking an occasional dungeon.

Pick the nuisance you are willing to keep

Every race can be a Warrior in Forever. Race choice is more useful when it answers a problem: Gnomes help with roots and slows, Humans and Orcs with stuns, Undead with fear, and Dwarves with harmful physical effects. The old weapon-skill racial bonuses should not force a sword or axe choice. You still need to like the character you will watch through hundreds of pulls.

Professions are options rather than entry requirements. Mining can support Blacksmithing for your own equipment, while Engineering adds utility; gathering, selling or buying supplies can also fit your routine. Our verdict is strongest for someone who enjoys a shield, close combat and having a specific answer ready. If eating between pulls, occasional weapon swaps and stance restrictions already sound irritating, those inconveniences deserve as much weight as the appeal of Charge and a new weapon.
